CES: Fujifilm announces 2011 lineup with eight megazoom cameras
Fujifilm announced a slew of new point-and-shoot cameras today including eight megazoom models ranging from the top-of-the-line Fujifilm FinePix HS20EXR 30x megazoom ($499.95), to the Fujifilm FinePix T200 10x compact megazoom ($179.95).
Fujifilm FinePix HS20EXR - 30x megazoom This update to last year's FinePix HS10 is Fujifilm's first camera to use its new 16-megapixel EXR CMOS sensor. The 30x megazoom comes in a traditional SLR-style body, with twist-barrel manual zoom lens that goes from 24 to 720mm equivalent (f/2.8 to 5.6). The camera has both an electronic viewfinder and a 460,000-dot, 3-inch LCD and incorporates a heads-up eye sensor that automatically detects when you raise or lower the camera to switch between the LCD and the EVF. Other features include:
- 1080i video at 30 fps with stereo sound
- HDMI output connector
- Shoots raw and raw+JPG modes
- High sensitivity up to ISO 12800
- Full manual control
- Continuous burst shooting up to 7.6 fps for up to 8 frames at full resolution
- Shoots high-speed movies with slow motion playback at up to 320 fps
- Motion Panorama 360 feature lets you shoot a 360-degree panorama by swinging your camera horizontally or vertically
- Face detection with automatic red-eye detection
- Tracking autofocus
- Optional cable remote release
- Two optional external flashes to be released later this year
The camera will ship at the end of March for $499.95.
The 550EXR also offers GPS geotracking capabilities with a built-in GPS sensor, giving you the ability to embed GPS tagging into your EXIF image files. You can sort and search images by GPS coordinates, display onscreen points of interest and direct you to them. GPS tagging is compatible with services such as Microsoft Earth, Picasa, and Google Maps and the camera can even help you navigate back to where you took each shot. Other features include:
- Shoots raw and raw+JPG modes (F550 only)
- Continuous burst shooting up to 12 fps
- Shoots high-speed movies with slow motion playback at up to 320 fps
- Motion Panorama 360
- Mini HDMI output
- 1080i video at 30 fps with stereo sound
- Intelligent scene recognition mode
The cameras will ship in March for $345.95 (F550) and $329.95 (F500).
Fujifilm FinePix S2950, S3200, and S4000 - 18x, 20x, and 30x megazooms
The S2950 includes an 18x wide-angle zoom lens (28-504mm equivalent), a 3-inch, 230,000-dot LCD and an electronic viewfinder. It shoots 720p HD videos and offers a mini-HDMI output connector. You can use the optical zoom while shooting video and the camera uses a better insulated zoom motor to reduce noise from the lens while shooting. Other features include:
- Sensitivity up to ISO 6400
- Dual image stabilization
- Face detection
- Tracking autofocus
- Panoramic stiching mode
- Instant zoom (one button zooms to maximum zoom range)
- Zoom bracketing (three different images with one shutter click)
- Continuous shooting up to 8 fps for 20 frames
- Full manual control
- AA battery powered
The S3200 is a step-up from the S2950, offering a 24x wide-angle zoom (24-576mm equivalent), with a 230,000-dot, 3-inch LCD and an EVF, as well as most of the features offered by the S2950. The S3200 offers the addition of face recognition, which lets you register up to 8 faces to which you can assign name, birthdate, etc., so you can prioritize them for focal point and exposure control within automatic settings.
The S4000 is the next step up with a 30x wide-angle zoom (24-720mm equivalent), a 460,000-dot, 3-inch LCD and an EVF, and most of the features offered in the S3200.
The S2950 will ship in mid January for $229.95, the S3200 will ship in late feb for $249.95, and the S4000 will ship in late March for $279.95.
