CES 2011

In addition to the three digital still cameras announced today, Kodak has also announced two inexpensive pocket video cameras, the Kodak Playfull and the Kodak Playsport Zx5, an updated version of the Playsport waterproof camcorder released earlier this year.

As with the new digital still cameras, the two pocket camcorders include a Share button that lets you tag your photos and videos for uploading to email, social networking sites, or the new Kodak Pulse Digital Frame after you connect the camcorder to a PC.

Kodak Playfull The sleeker and slimmer of the two new camcorders, the Kodak Playfull measures just 1.6x3.9x0.7 inches. Like the Playsport, it shoots full 1080p (1,920x1080) video at 30 fps as well as 5-megapixel, 16:9 widescreen format still images. You can also shoot 720p videos at 60 fps for fast action or slow-motion playback.  Built-in software lets you perform basic in-camera video editing and extract still images from your videos or add special effects like sepia, high-saturation, and a retro "70s film look." The camcorder includes a 1.5-inch LCD that automatically adjusts to lighting conditions, built-in digital image stabilization, face-tracking technology, and an SD/SDHC card slot that accepts up to 32GB flash memory cards to hold up to 10 hours of HD video. The Playfull will be available in silver, blue-silver, purple-silver, and blue-black color options and sell for $149.95 when it ships this spring.

Kodak Playsport Zx5 Like its predecessor (the Kodak Playsport Zx3), the new Kodak Playsport Zx5 is waterproof up to 10 feet.  The new model adds dustproof and shockproof to its roster of features, being designed to withstand dust, sand, and dirt as well as drops of up to 5 feet. At 2.3x4.4x0.7 inches, it's a bit chunkier than the Playfull and roughly the same size as the previous Playsport. The camcorder includes a 2-inch LCD that adjusts automatically to lighting conditions and otherwise has most of the same features as the Playfull, shooting 1080p video at 30 fps, 720p video at 60 or 30 fps, and 5-megapixel stills, and including built-in digital image stabilization, face-tracking, SD/SDHC card slot (up to 32GB), in-camera editing and special effects. The Playsport will be available in black, red, green, white and aqua color options and sell for $179.95 this spring.
