Olympus, Sony and Panasonic have really been leading the way when it comes to mirrorless, interchangeable lens cameras. It looks like Nikon is almost (finally) ready to join the party.
According to Mirrorless Rumors, this camera will be for professionals only because Nikon is afraid that an amteur system would "only cannibalize their very good selling entry level DSLR market."
The argument makes sense to some extent, and it would be a landmark to have the first professional interchangeable lens camera. Yet, hopefully that stance isn't true for long and Nikon will consider releasing an entry-level or mid-range version. While Olympus and Panasonic seem to have this cornered with the PEN E-PL1 and Lumix GF1 respectively, more competition should only be considered a good thing.
