Document Managment Excuse #9. Change is expensive

Summary: Sure, change can be expensive, but no change can be even more expensive. I know that implementing a new document management system may seem costly at first, but if you think about it, the quick and snappy business practices that result will allow you to reap tons of savings in the future.

I know that implementing a new document management system may seem costly at first, but if you think about it, the quick and snappy business practices that result will allow you to reap tons of savings in the future. Just think of it as a long-term investment. You know, like that remote controlled beverage cooler I bought the other day. You say a waste of money, I say one of my most practical purchases to date. (Okay, so maybe that wasn't the best comparison…)

If implementing a simple automated solution helps speed up manual processes in turn cutting costs and freeing up employees to focus on cores business then why not do it. Your competition is!!

    • I agree

It seems that the general strategy today in business is that when costs get to high, work force gets cut. And when you have poor document management and lay someone off, it only doubles the workload of someone else. So the problem just becomes worse.

It's true that a good document management system is not so much an expense as a potential area for cost savings. Think of it as an extra employee that doesn't take breaks and works for minimum wage! Clearly every business has to evaluate new technology purchases carefully and make an informed decision, which Doc admits is not always easy. Thanks for the comments.
