Ricoh to the Finish Line!
Summary: As Official Race Results and Reprographics Provider, Ricoh was tasked with scanning, sending, printing and delivering 600 Men’s and 600 Women’s Elite results, 600 Unratified Women’s Championship results and 600 Men’s and 600 Women’s Wheelchair results.
Doc’s idea of a marathon is 3 cans of Red Bull and 12 back-to-back episodes of Law and Order. I guess we all push ourselves to different limits, be it physical, emotional, or even mechanical. That’s why a recent news item about last month’s Virgin London Marathon caught my eye and made me appreciate what it takes to run a real marathon.
Seems it wasn’t just dedicated runners who took part in the much celebrated race. Our good friends at Ricoh provided a few dedicated runners of their own, in the form of high-speed multi-function devices.
As Official Race Results and Reprographics Provider, Ricoh was tasked with scanning, sending, printing and delivering 600 Men’s and 600 Women’s Elite results, 600 Unratified Women’s Championship results and 600 Men’s and 600 Women’s Wheelchair results. Part of its printing requirement was to also pre-print the results’ document front and back covers on Ricoh’s production print colour devices. The results and covers were produced by Ricoh’s Print & Document Services in Coulsdon, Surrey and the results were scanned and sent through electronically in PDF format by 13.30 on race day, where they were also printed on a range of Ricoh’s production print devices, before being despatched back to the Marathon HQ, by 15.00, for distribution.
Charles Moloney, Marketing Director, Ricoh UK said: “The London Marathon is a phenomenal event and Ricoh UK is proud to have played such as pivotal role in ensuring its print requirements were met professionally and within the very precise timescales. Perhaps the biggest and most exciting change this year for Ricoh, was the placement of one of our MPC4500s on the finish line. The device took pride-of-place at the Marathon’s Media Sub-Centre on The Mall, where it was used to scan race results back to Marathon HQ, after they had been hand-signed by the official men’s and women’s race referees. It was a great day for all who participated, but it was equally rewarding for Ricoh.”
All this marathon talk has Doc wishing he could get up from the couch and do something meaningful. But then I really like Law and Order.

Anyway, Doc has hands on experience with stuff like printer maintenance and fleet management, but his mastery of document management leaves no stone unturned. Important issues like sustainability, security, and regulatory compliance are top of mind for Doc, as are other business technology needs like networking and IT services, making him a true blue IT renaissance man.
