One in three UK employees access social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter at work. On the flipside, 2 out of 3 people think companies are right to ban these services at the office. The data comes from UK job site Reed, which surveyed more than 4,000 employees in June 2011.
While 33 percent admit to using a social network in the office, the most likely to use these platforms at work are marketers (44 percent) and IT workers (43 percent), as you might expect. Facebook is the most popular choice (45 percent), ahead of LinkedIn (20 percent), and leading Twitter by over 3 to 1 (14 percent).
32 percent of employees said their company had no blocking or policy for social media use at work, while 28 percent said it was completely banned. Interestingly, the highest number cited is for those who access social media at work via their mobile device: 64 percent.
