Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg joins Pinterest

Summary: Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has joined Pinterest. He’s already more active on it than Google+, and could soon surpass his Twitter activity, but that’s not saying much.

Many will question why Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has joined the fastest-growing social network Pinterest. Is he simply interested in new social networks? Is he worried about the competition? I would guess it’s somewhere in between the two, given that Pinterest has received a lot of growth thanks to Facebook and that Zuckerberg maintains profiles on other social networks.

On Pinterest, Zuckerberg already has thousands of followers. More interestingly, at the time of writing he is following 125 Pinterest users. Furthermore, he already has eight Boards, three Pins, and one Like. He added a Board while I was writing this article, as you’ll notice in the screenshot above.

For those who don’t know, Zuckerberg also has profiles on Google+ (over 630,000 followers) and Twitter (over 134,000 followers). He’s only slightly more active on Twitter than he is on Pinterest, and he’s not active on Google+ at all, at least not publicly.

At one point, Zuckerberg had the most Google+ followers, but that still didn’t coax him into posting a message publicly. As for Twitter, Zuckerberg has only tweeted 19 times. His last tweet was actually last month, but it was simply a link to his Facebook post where he released a statement opposing the U.S. anti-piracy legislation Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA). Before then, his last tweet was almost two years ago.

Personally, I’ve requested an invite to Pinterest but haven’t actually bothered signing up yet. I’m just too lazy to figure out what it offers that is significantly different to what I can do with Facebook. Apparently, Zuckerberg isn’t, and is thus actively trying to figure that out.
