Facebook has just 17 Open Graph launch partners

By | September 22, 2011, 3:47pm PDT

Summary: Facebook has finally unveiled its official list of partners for its new brand of social apps. The full list of just 17 companies may surprise you.

At its 2011 f8 developer conference, Facebook announced a new Timeline feature and new social apps using its Open Graph. So who has Facebook partnered with to push its new initiative forward?

Here is the official list of 17 companies that have so far leveraged the updated Open Graph to make their apps more social:

  1. The Daily
  2. Dailymotion
  3. Earbits
  4. The Guardian
  5. Hulu
  6. iHeartRadio
  7. The Independent
  8. Izlesene
  9. Jelli
  10. My Video
  11. Netflix
  12. Rdio
  13. Slacker
  14. Songza
  15. Spotify
  16. The Washington Post
  17. Yahoo

So why is this number so small? Well, the Timeline isn’t live yet, and Facebook is only today letting all developers try the new Open Graph. You can expect this list to explode in the next few weeks.

Up until the f8 event today, there were multiple rumored partners that were supposed to either roll out new apps or update their existing ones. Here are a few: news partners were to include big online publishers (Yahoo, video websites (Hulu and Netflix), and music services (Spotify, MOG, Rhapsody, Soundcloud, Rdio, Deezer, and Vevo).

Yesterday, Facebook announced 11 speakers for its 2011 f8 developer conference. Companies onboard included Clear Channel, Spotify, Atom Factory, Zynga, Playfish, Foodspotting, Turntable.fm, Electronic Arts, Kabam, Disney, Greylock Partners, Benchmark Capital, Accel Partners, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Some of these companies will never release a Facebook app, because that’s not what they do. Some of them are still working on updating their apps. Some are launch partners.

Always remember not to get too excited about rumors and speculation. Even if the source is completely trustworthy, things change.
