Microsoft talks Facebook for Windows Phone version 2.5

Summary: Microsoft has unveiled what new features to expect in Facebook for Windows Phone version 2.5. The software giant has not, however, given a date to look forward to for the new release.

Microsoft has announced what to expect in the upcoming release of its native Facebook app for Windows Phone. Version 2.5 will be released sometime in the near future; the software giant says it is going through its final rounds of testing before sign off.

Here is Microsoft is promising in Facebook for Windows Phone 2.5:

  • Threaded messaging: Full Facebook threaded messaging including group messaging, all in a beautiful Metro style design.
  • Tagging: Now you can tag friends and locations in your posts in the 'with' and 'at' format.
  • Delete posts and comments: Use the tap and hold context menu to delete posts and comments from your wall.
  • Active links in posts: Tap on links in posts to go directly to the content.
  • Updates to the photo comments and likes page: The photo comments and likes page has been updated to match the posts comments and likes page. You can see a hint of the image at the top of the page, pull down and you can see the whole thing.
  • And finally, by popular demand: you can now Like comments!

Unfortunately, there's still no mention of full Facebook Timeline support, which is rather disappointing.

Facebook for Windows Phone version 2.3, which added various new features and included multiple improvements, was released over two months ago. It was soon followed by version 2.4, which restored the Events link on the main panorama.

Although the Windows Phone operating system includes native Facebook support, the separate app extends the functionality by adding support for Pages, Groups, and other features. Unlike Facebook for Android and Facebook for iOS, Facebook for Windows Phone is not developed by Facebook: it's built by Microsoft.

  • All hat, no cattle

Remember the good old days when Microsoft used to ship stuff instead of talking about it? Now it's "Wait for Tango!" "Wait for Mango!" "Wait for Windows 8!"

Now we have "Wait for a Facebook app!"

    • Troll alert.

Microsoft has been delivering product like crazy the last several years. I see nothing wrong with telling people that the Facebook 2.5 update is coming soon, it helps generate excitement for the platform.

    • There's already a Facebook app

Microsoft isn't saying "wait for a Facebook app" because there's ALREADY a Facebook app. There has been since day one.

All they're saying is that new features will be introduced in a new version soon.

  • Windows Phone Is Awsome!

I love using my WP device much more than I have Android or iOS.. It's just.. well ..Cooler! Once you use WP you realize how old, and outdated Android and iOS really are. It's not just how WP makes the competition look outdated aesthetically speaking, but it's also how the WP Os is organized, which is really refreshing and modern. It's real smart how they designed the whole OS, and it's funny, but at first glance it doesn't seem like there's to much going on with the phones, but use one for a day and what a difference! That's all it took me to catapult myself into the 21st century,, one day! I hope a lot of other people finally realize this about WP, but something this good cant stay a secret to long... I'm just glad I'm ahead of the curve.. LOL.. I hate to admit it but those reps at AT&T were actually right!

  • love windows phone

I really love this platform. It was a sleeper for a while, but it seems to be catching on. It is certainly better than the iphone.

  • Great Social Networking Platform

I spend a fair amount of time with Twitter and Facebook, and have been really impressed with WP's integration. The native integration makes it incredibly fast and easy to post to and view notifications from both networks without the need for a separate app. The apps add even more functionality for more advanced needs, making WP an outstanding platform for social networking.

Regardless of one's personal preference for interfaces (some may prefer Android, some iOS, some WP), the strengths of WP's Twitter and Facebook integration can't be argued with.
