13.3" Acer Aspire TimelineX 3830T with Intel i5 CPU, $780

By | June 6, 2011, 11:03pm PDT

Summary: This 13.3″ from Acer’s refreshed TimelineX series is an entertainment powerhouse with great battery life for everyone from business professionals to students.

Acer just unveiled the latest laptops from its Aspire TimelineX series updated with the latest technologies technologies, with the ultra-portable 13.3″ (3830T) offering the best balance between power, price and style in the lineup.

Not only is the 3830T powered by Intel’s Core i5 processor and comes with 4 GB of RAM and a 500 GB hard drive, it also sports the respectable NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M video card with 1GB of dedicated VRAM that “demanding games of 2010 should run fluently in medium to high details,” according to NotebookCheck, without draining the battery.

With a 13.3″ HD widescreen (1366×768 resolution), HD audio support from Dolby Home Theater, HDMI 1080p output, two built-in 3D Sonic Speakers and a USB 3.0 adapter for quick file transfer (as well as charge other devices when it is off), this little laptop is an entertainment powerhouse that can last up to eight hours on its 6-cell Li-ion battery.

At 0.87″ thick at its thinnest point and weighing 4.12 lbs, this model would suit everyone from the frequent flyer professional to the college freshman who wants to enjoy his entertainment and still be able to bring the computer to class to take notes on.

The 3830T is available in North America now for $779.99.

Here are some additional specs on the 13.3″ model:

  • Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset
  • Camera: 1.3 Megapixel HD Webcam
  • Ports/Adapters: Multi-in-1 Digital Media Card Reader; 2 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0 slots; VGA; HDMI
  • Multi-gesture touchpad
  • Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit and Office Starter 2010
  • Connectivity: 802.11b/g/n; Ethernet LAN; Bluetooth 3.0

This series also offers a 14″ (4830T) and 15.6″ (5830T) option but with slightly different parts to suit different budgets and needs (from $599.99 to $699.99). You can read more about those models in this post from our colleagues at ZDNet’s Laptops and Desktops blog.

Yes, Its from ACER.
Service is awful. They charge you even if its a common problem for all their system and you are covered under new product warranty.
So buy it if you want a unreliable unit with no support whatsoever.

Sorry, but nothing we've ever bought from Acer worked well or lasted long. One distributor *gave* us 5 laptops to get us interested, and 3 of them were DOA out of the box.
