Auto manufacturers are increasingly packing cutting-edge technology into new vehicle models. This time, it’s the 2011 Audi A8, which will be rolling out with the option of a factory-installed wireless Internet hotspot inside the car.
According to the makers themselves, the Audi A8 will be the first car worldwide to offer the option of a built-in WLAN hotspot. Passengers looking to surf the Internet at speeds up to 7.2 Mbit/s while in motion by inserting a SIM card into the Bluetooth car phone. If you’re worried about security, Audi claims they’ve got you covered with WPA2 encryption.
Even though the car looks to only has four (maybe five) seats, you can connect up to eight Wi-Fi-ready devices at once. Like everyone else in the tech industry, Audi makes note of compatibility with the iPad - even though most netbooks, laptops and other devices that have Wi-Fi connection should work as well.
The 2011 A8 will be certainly be a high-tech vehicle, as Audi announced back in December that the same model would include handwriting recognition support in the car’s user interface.
