With Netflix and Hulu Plus now offering their very own Android apps, television and movie fans are finding a special kind of solace in Android
But Netflix and Hulu are not alone. This October, the pair will be joined by 20th Century Fox, which is bringing digital versions of its films to Android. Starting with X-Men: First Class, Fox will bundle the digital versions of with their Blu-Ray counterparts. Consumers will then be able to sideload the films onto compatible Android devices.
Of course, the effort isn’t exactly new. Fox has been bundling digital versions of its films with DVDs for a while now. But what is interesting with the move is that it shows that Google’s acquisition of DRM provider Wildevine is bearing fruit. With the proper security features in place, Android is finally becoming a destination for media companies - openness be dammed.
