$99 for AT&T's '3D phone' LG Thrill 4G, confirmed

Summary: At half the price of Sprint’s HTC Evo 3D, AT&T is already pricing the LG Thrill 4G to move units before a street date has even been announced.

An AT&T rep just confirmed to me by email that the LG Thrill 4G — AT&T’s answer to the HTC Evo 3D from Sprint — will be launching at just $99 with a two-year contract, half the price of the HTC phone with similar technology. At this price, it is the no-brainer pick for those looking for 3D functionality in their next phone, or just the latest Android phone with the most current specs.

To recap, the Thrill 4G (aka Optimus 3D in other parts of the world) features a Tri-dual design, which means it has a second-generation 1GHz dual core TI OMAP4430 processor, 512MB of dual channel RAM, and a pair of 5 megapixel rear cameras that can capture 3D 1080p video at 24fps, or 3D 720p at 30fps. Though the HTC Evo 3D’s dual core CPU clocks at a slightly faster speed at 1.2 GHz, the Thrill 4G makes up for its slower clock speed with its dual memory channels.

Both phones offer the same 4.3″ 3D glasses-free but the resolution on the Thrill 4G’s display is slightly lower at 800 X 480 (the Evo 3D has a qHD display), which is capable of 1080p playback in 2D and 720p in 3D. The differences in screen resolution aside, both phones capture three-dimensional content with similar dual five-megapixel rear cameras so you can better enjoy your 3D phones and videos on your HDTV via an HDMI-out. Its 4G moniker is a bit misleading as it is designed for AT&T’s HSPA+ rather than its LTE network, so this may not be the deal for you if you’re looking for a LTE device.

There is no word yet on whether the Thrill 4G will ship with Gingerbread but if today’s announcement is any indication, AT&T will likely be upgrading this 3D phone’s OS soon. AT&T has yet to announce a street date for this phone but will be sure to keep our eye out for one.
