Acer is finally dishing out the details on the North American release of its Iconia Tab A200.

The 10.1-inch Iconia Tab A200 picks up where the A500 left off, offering a 1280 x 800 10.1-inch screen, dual-core Tegra 2 processor, a full-size USB port and a microSD slot. And it's also fairly cheap. Acer plans to sell the 8GB version for $329 and the 16GB model for $349.

While it's reasonable to expect that Android tablets released within the next few weeks would be running Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box, thats not the case with the Iconia A200, which is equipped with Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Fortunately, Acer plans to offer a free upgrade to the latest Android version come February.

As for the release date itself, expect the device on January 15th.

  • How much profit is Acer making from these tablets?

This important to know since low profits equals low commitment from the manufacturer. If Acer doesn't make enough profits from this, they'll abandon it and consumers will be stuck with unsupported hardware.

@toddybottom - Very true. Although at these prices I am seriously considering buying a tablet. I don't want to get one of the cheap cheap ones, but I refuse to pay over $400 for any tablet. Not when for 50 bucks more I can get a cheap laptop with more functionality.

I wonder what the "catch" is regarding it's low price. I would hate to admit that Jason Perlow was correct when he stated Android tablets are seriously overpriced. I would REALLY hate to admit that. Grin

  • It is an Acer .... don't expect quality, efficiency or even support

Acer is pretty much the bottom of the brand names. Quality of anything Acer is like playing slots in Vegas .... you are lucky if to get any quality at all.

@wackoae That's true for any brand. I have an Acer Icontab 500 and love it! It locks up every blue moon, but only during some obscure combinations of events that normally don't happen in day to day operation. I accidentally dropped it from about 4 feet and didn't fase it a bit, albeit, I wouldn't want to make a habit of doing such things if I can. :) I dislike people who make comments (not you) but those who say such and such item "isn't perfect" what is?? Compared to an Ipad2 I feel my A500 holds up fairly well considering. Many many people have been enthralled by it and want to know where to buy on. It makes me happy to let people know there's a choice beside Apple, and I'm not getting on the bash Apple bandwagon either.
