Amazon has dropped the price and this time added a new color option to one of its Kindles. The Kindle DX is now available in graphite with some improved features and a lower price tag: $379.
Sure, $379 is still quite a lot to pay for an e-ink device, but it does retain free global 3G wireless support (meaning no messy contracts to sign). The 9.7-inch, graphite Kindle DX has 50% improved contrast, auto-toggling between landscape and portrait modes, and a battery life that lasts up to a week when the 3G is turned on (and up to two weeks if you leave it off).
Most of the features on the Kindle DX are available on the much lower-priced standard Kindle, selling for $189 now. So you must really want that larger display (and maybe like the color gray) to select this one over the other.
Ready for pre-ordering now, the more somber-looking Kindle DX will ship on Wednesday, July 7.
