Many of you probably noticed the note from Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos on the front page of Amazon today announcing even more Kindle news. If not, then here’s the gist: First, the Kindle is receiving a price drop; and second, Amazon is releasing a new global wireless Kindle.

To start with, the Kindle 2, which was previously slated at $299, is dropping now to $259. It still has wireless, but no global capabilities.

The introduction of the new Kindle, which has international and U.S. wireless, will provide wireless access in over one hundred countries. The Kindle uses 3G, and there are no additional fees to using the wireless connection. It has a list price of $279.

You can purchase the $259 Kindle now, but the global Kindle is only available for pre-order. It should be ready to ship within the next two weeks.

Hmmm, I'm wondering what effect this will have on the other eReaders on the market.
