Android 2.3.3 reportedly breaks Google Voice on Nexus One
Summary: For those of you trying to update the Nexus One to Gingerbread, beware. Apparently the update isn't too friendly to Google Voice.
For those of you trying to update the Nexus One to Gingerbread, beware. Apparently the update isn't too friendly to Google Voice.
The support page for Google Voice has a specific thread open to address the Android 2.3.3 upgrade. Basically, Google Voice app functionality is lost with the update, and the problem appears to have spread worldwide.
There is a fix found on the page that goes over installing and using an APK file, although the directions are a bit complicated...especially for something that Google should really address itself in another update.
If you have a Nexus One, have you experienced difficulties with updating to Android 2.3.3?

edit
after reading the thread our author left, the fix is pretty simple, download google voice from outside the market... that doesnt seem too complicated... click, install... done...
I'm an American user in London. I manually updated my Nexus S to 2.3.3 which disabled Google Voice. I could see the icon but it wouldn't load.
I just fixed it, though:
1) Enable Settings ? Applications ? Unknown.
2) Download/install this old Google Voice apk from my website: http://monkeydyne.com/pub/gv.apk
3) Find the old Google Voice app in the Market and run "Update".
This leaves you with the stock Google Voice app, enabled and runnable.
if thats complicated, I would hate to know what you think about MS office 2007 or higher... I still cant find half the crap I used to use in there....

Google Voice broken worldwide? Get your facts straight. It is being blocked outside of the US. It isn't broken, its working just fine. Just not outside the US.
