It was previously reported that cases and bumpers made for AT&T's iPhone 4 wouldn't fit the new Verizon model. Apple has a new solution.

Apple has crafted a universal iPhone bumper with a larger cutout around the mute button to accommodate its lower placement on the CDMA edition. While these haven't popped up online yet, the universal bumpers have been spotted in Apple Stores already. Remember that pre-orders for Verizon's iPhone 4 don't start until February 3 with a ship date of February 10.

And if you still don't like this, well don't worry. Plenty of third-party companies have already started churning out Verizon-specific iPhone 4 cases.

Someone has actually taken the time to make a video comparing old bumpers and displaying how to use such an accessory, so take a look:

  • Well this is good

for anyone looking to get such a product. Eliminates the confusion for customers to determine what iPhone 4 version they have and probably cuts down costs of manufacturing and distribution/marketing. Not exactly sure why they had to modify the antenna on the Verizon version in the first place but I am sure they had their reasons.

  • this just prove apple's innovative thinking!

while all the other companies making iPhon bumpers make 1 for the att iphone and another for the verizon iphone apple innovated AGAIN and made 1 bumber that fits BOTH!

why couldnt anyone else think that up?

  • The bumper is great! Beats a larger case all to heck.

I got one of the freebies that Apple gave away in the wake of the "antennagate" flap. At first, I wasn't going to use it at all, 'cause I didn't find the "grip of death" to be a problem. But I put it on just to try it, and ended up leaving it on. It's every bit as well designed as the phone itself. It makes the phone more comfortable to hold, and provides protection--and prevents slipping--when the phone is laid on a flat surface. It also isn't as bulky as a wrap-around case, and so it slips in and out of a pants pocket very easily. All in all, a really great accessory for the iPhone.

So much ado about (virtually) nothing.

  • Hehehe.....

If Apple didn't have antenna problems/defects, people wouldn't need a bumper.

Are people really surprised that Apple released the iPhone 4 with a different case? Nope. Just another way to screw the consumer. Now they may still need different third party cases. [And those manufacturers aren't thrilled either.]
