Within three days of the live launch date, Apple sold a whopping 1.7 million copies of the iPhone 4. Despite all of the problems and hassle that went on during the pre-sale week, that's pretty darn good.
That number includes all of the sales up to and including Saturday, June 26. Compare that to one year ago when iPhone 3GS sales topped one million in four days, and sales for the iPhone 3G reached a million in three days in 2008.
Sunday numbers haven't been published or included yet, but basically the iPhone 4 has become the Avatar of smartphones.

Good for Apple
delusional
you are really one of the most delusional apple haters here in geeky land. do you really think any of that hardly usable resistive touchscreen phones that you had to use with a pen, and had a horrible ui were something real people wanted to use? and no, copy and paste and multitasking are not basic features. until they are implemented in a usable way that doesn't kill your battery in an hour, they are only empty bullet points on a feature list.
i know for traditional pc folks like you it is really hard to accept: apple reinvented the phone three years ago with the first usable browser, a touchscreen that worked and an ui that blew everything out of the water that existed before (something most people would call basic features). and besides the screaming and howling of the windows mobile enthusiasts (yes, they really existed) back then, now three years later all smartphones are an upside-down and backwards, patent infringing copy of the iphone.
and now even your world has changed for the better. if it wasn't for apple the smartphone industry would still be in a deep coma.
Thanks for the reply
But like I said:
I'll leave that for the rabid fanboys to bicker about
That would be you I was talking about! Actually, I did forget to acknowledge iDiots like you in my original post so I'll rectify that now.
Thank you, iDiots like banned from zdnet everywhere, for buying truly substandard phones like the iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS so that Apple had enough money to finally make a good phone. Without your blind loyalty and willingness to pay for truly some of the worst products to ever grace this earth, you will allow millions to reap the benefits of your stupidity. Apple couldn't have done it without you. And for that, thank you!
:)
RE: Apple sold 1.7 million iPhone 4s through Saturday, June 26
I do agree that Apple did change the market 3 years ago with the iPhone, but now it has fallen behind, and will continue to do so. The only reason they sold so many iPhones this time around is because ATT let people renew early just to get it. because even they see that the future looks dim for iPhone fanbois.
NonZealot Failed to Mention, that it's a Samsung Galaxy S Rebranded Phone!
BTW.... most people now realize that most of the parts in that iPhone 4, are made by Samsung. Apple begged Samsung to let them use their Hummingbird A8 SoC, that they had contracted w/ Intrinsity to design Domino Logic and tape out the chip, using Samsung's own chip Tape (substrate) Technology for cooler, more energy efficient processing in Apple's re-branded A-4 SoC. Of course, you know all memory is made Samsung and they supplied half of those IPS screens along with LG and the majority of other parts except Broadcom radios. That are still hampered by Apple's lone asinine external antenna invention for improved dropped call service on AT&T's fastest to drop a call network!
So Apple's part (since they didn't know how to shrink the IPS LED chips to make their Rectal IPS Screens, is in hidden features. Yet to be unveiled. The fix for dropped calls is coming in the form of a Self Stunning Gun feature. Hold it wrong, say something bad about Apple or even think wrong and you get shocked. It's a new iNazi designed control feature to go along w/ their "Thought Police" Prison Gardened Walled Network! :D
Oh.... iPhone 4 over wireless video conferencing over VOIP 3G? Well if you look back at what iChat is a program designed for use on AOL's voice and transport service network. Google owns part of AOL. Which uses the Voip engine and standards based video and voice protocols now owned by Google! lol
Batting 100...Bravo!
So I'm wrong then? iPhone 4 sucks and iPhones 1-3 were the good ones?

Hey NZ, Apple makes more of iPhone 'bumpers' than Msft off Win Mo
Apple sells plastic bumper cases for 29 bucks.
Msft sells Win Mo licenses to OEMs at 15-18 bucks.
I thought that was really amusing.
:)
I wonder how much MS licensed iPhone Exchange support for?
Sometimes you guys forget that MS gets a bit of money for every single iPhone sold. What would be really amusing is if MS actually made more money from licensing Exchange to iPhone than it did on WM!
However, in the end, does it really matter?
1. MS makes more profit over its product lines than Apple does.
2. Windows Mobile has served me extremely well over the years, dating back to 2003. The amount of profit that the multi-national, multi-billion $$$/year, mega-corporation makes from the products it sells me is totally and absolutely irrelevant to me. And it should be to you too. :)
@NZ: $$$ irrelevant? I bought aapl at 160 when you said you got a Macbook
it's 265 now.
Good enough profit for some Apple toys.
:)
Good for you!
Sometimes, fantastic products make no direct money at all, like Linux. Should you not use Linux because you can't make any money on Linux stock? Again, of course not.
I'll stand by my statement since your reply has done nothing, absolutely nothing, to address it:
Windows Mobile has served me extremely well over the years, dating back to 2003. The amount of profit that the multi-national, multi-billion $$$/year, mega-corporation makes from the products it sells me is totally and absolutely irrelevant to me. And it should be to you too.
But enjoy your AAPL profits. Maybe you should buy yourself one of those fancy iPhone 4s? I hear they are really nice! :)

With the intensity of hate NonNobody has been spewing here, that means Apple has had an excellent week.

The better the week, the more his puke hits the screen.

:)
RE: Apple sold 1.7 million iPhone 4s through Saturday, June 26
Why would it get me down?
What's the matter old boy the impending demise of WM getting you down?
Could you explain to me why I would be depressed about WM not doing well? Unlike you, I haven't formed an emotional bond with the multi-national, multi-$$$/year mega-corporations that sell me my goods. Using your logic, I should be ecstatic because I have an MBP and therefore should be dancing in the street because MY company (Apple) is doing well!!!
Windows Mobile has served me very well for over 7 years. That you would see that as depressing says more about you than it does about me. :)
I'm sure Apple will have an iPhone 4 all ready for you
Are you sure? I hear they've delayed the Canadian launch, probably because they are sold out. ;)
You see, I can joke about this because I simply don't care. These are consumer goods. I buy the best consumer goods for me. It's why I've been buying Windows Mobile products. It's why I bought an MBP. It's why I buy Windows. It's why I bought a Zune. :)
RE: Apple sold 1.7 million iPhone 4s through Saturday, June 26
Congrats Apple and congrats to every one of those 1.7 million consumers. Most of you are probably iDiots but even iDiots sometimes accidentally make a good choice. I guess in your book calling someone and idiot is not namecalling?
I calls 'em like I sees 'em
Oh and for that statement about you not namecalling
I actually addressed that in my response, did you not see it? From my post:
I'm not calling people names, I'm simply stating facts based on their purchasing decisions.
If you purchased an iPhone 1-3, you are an idiot. That isn't calling anyone a name, that is simply stating the truth.
id?i?ot? ?[id-ee-uht]
?noun
1.
an utterly foolish or senseless person.
I don't make up dictionary definitions, I simply use the words that I find there!
RE: Apple sold 1.7 million iPhone 4s through Saturday, June 26
Actually the facts here are of course a tad different
from your fantasy world there NonZ. Apple goes it's own way. People like yourself keep trying to compare "features" but Apple does not. Apple always starts with a rock solid foundation and builds upon that solid foundation.... Apple never tries to keep up with the Joneses, be like the Joneses, look or act like the Joneses. Apple's sales of it's products including the iPod, iPad and iPhone never depended on the "features" you've been winning about for these many years NonZ and that kills you:) A fact I so enjoy by the by.
Now as for your claim that Apple finally got it right on it's fourth attempt? You ignore the fantastic sales numbers of even the iPhone 1st gen and so forth but heck that is normal enough for you. What I don't get is you've been doing this wait for them to get it right thing with MS for decades now. Windows 1.0 to Windows 95 (If you want to be generous and give MS Windows 95 as being right that is). MS Word 1.0 World perfect and Word Star were MUCH better products. MS Excel Lotus cleaned it's clock for server versions. IE 1.0.. Netscape was in the lead for several versions beyond IE 1.0. The list for MS goes on and on and on.
