Hoping to give the Nook Color a bit of competition, the Archos 70c colorized e-book reader is ready to pre-order in the United States.

A ship date hasn't been revealed yet, but interested buyers can head to JR.com already. Priced at $149, this slate isn't a bad deal - at least not on paper.

The Archos 70c sports a 7-inch TFT resistive display (800 x 480 resolution), a 600MHz processor, 4GB of onboard storage space, Wi-Fi, and an SD card slot. The Android 2.1-based device should also deliver up to 10 hours of use time on a single charge.

As long as the Archos 70c doesn't suffer from a ton of setbacks and delays like some other under-the-radar gadgets, then this e-book reader has a chance.

    Maybe you should try going to the Archos website and look this thing up, the picture above is NOT what the eReader looks like, it is an old pic from the FCC. It has changed since then.

    Look here: http://www.archos.com/products/ereaders/archos_70_ereader/index.html?country=us&lang=en

    Also, you can buy the one you pictured branded NextBook Next2 from Wally World or many other places today. As an eReader it is great. As a tablet, it is barely functional, but works (Android 1.5). I know, I have one.

    Ugh... more 800x480 garbage. Do not want at any price, my rooted nook color still blows this away.

    • 7" Color TFT - 800 x 480 pixels

      @Playdrv4me That's not bad for a 7 inch screen, why would you want higher resolution to READ BOOKS?
      I prefer that resolution on my COMPUTER!

  • Pre-sales without a shipping date

    - Every single Archos brand product has turned out to be crap.
    - No shipping date means that after they got your money, there is no reason deliver on time.
    - They are showing you a FAKE picture.

      @wackoae
      Except for the GPS software (which was free with my purchase), my Archos 5 has worked very well. Apps written for specific phones aren't reliable, but others from the Market work great.

    Got suckered into the 101. Pure and utter garbage. Felt like the casing was made of duct tape.

    Buyer beware Archos is known for making LOUSY - I mean really really lousy - products. They have had shipping delays on every product release they have ever had. Anyone and everyone (except that troll Charbax) knows they are utter crapola.
