Asus Transformer Prime tablets are on the way, U.S. rep confirms

Summary: Will the Asus Transformer Prime, arguably the most anticipated Android tablet to date, land in America in time for Christmas 2011?

SHARE:

Pre-ordered a quad-core Tegra 3-powered Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime and feeling anxious that the coveted tablet may not make it under your Christmas tree this year? Asus' U.S. spokesperson has confirmed to me by email that the first batch is already en route to its U.S. partners, with more to come over the next several weeks:

We started shipment of units to our partners last week and supply will escalate quickly over the next couple of weeks.

Assuming you're among the lucky minority whose pre-order was not cancelled by a retailer, your Transformer Prime could arrive this week. In fact, some lucky commenters who ordered from GameStop are reporting they already have their Prime in-hand.

As James Kendrick wrote earlier today, Amazon is now taking orders for the next shipment of the Transformer Prime but this batch won't ship until four to seven weeks later, which will be well into 2012. By then, you ought to be able to walk into a local Best Buy or Office Depot to test out the quad-core goodness before bringing the tablet-laptop combo home. According to Technocrati, Best Buy is listing a slightly earlier ship date than Amazon -- December 30, 2011 -- but that's still well past Christmas 2011.

Considering how much first-gen Transformer users love its form factor and all the raving reviews for the Transformer Prime, IMHO this is one sleek and powerful machine that is worth the wait.

Amazon finally emailed and says Feb. for my pre-order before Thanksgiving. This has to be the most poorly handled product launch ever.

I know this will offer you little solace but google the Notion Ink adam product launch. Now that was a "launch to remember!" And yes, I did pre-order an adam. Apparently I learned nothing from that pre-order experience; I yet await my pre-ordered Prime to ship from "Best"Buy!

I pre-ordered with Tiger Direct USA on 11/22 and when I called them they stated my Prime would ship 12/19. I finally call them 12/19 and they stated they received NO PRIME'S -0- and that their first shipment would be on 1/15. When I stated an email would have been nice one miraculously appeared an hour later at 10:39 PM 12/19. I will never order from Tiger Direct again. They are third rate anyway with their Circuit City, CompUSA, Tiger Direct triple 3 duplication. All they managed to do was get me to commit to a product I really want during the Black Friday season. As I type this I am clueless as to when I will even see my Prime. At least Amazon and Best Buys offered $10 credits for the inconvenience.

Sorry to hear about your plight with Tiger Direct! I had a nightmare episode with them 2 years ago and will never do business with them again. On the chance the may try to sue me if I say more... just Google Tiger Direct complaints. This will keep you busy for days.

IF you didn't sign a non-disclosure agreement with TigerD as part of any settlement you received from them, then the Tiger can roar all they want; talk to your heart's content! Tell them to "Sue and be Damned!"

This is only the 4th time I have heard a release date (starting back way back in August, right after I bought my Transformer)... I have actually given up and decided to wait for Acer or Lenovo's Tegra 3 tablet. At least they will have a 3g option.

Well if they are going to delay its shippment until Jan or Feb where is any news of ICS being installed? That would make a lot of people feel better about the delay. ASUS needs to step up and ship with ICS since they will have all this extra time. I really like the specs but I won't buy it until I see ICS on it and how well, or poorly it works. I really don't want an Ipad but as March, the rumored release date for the Ipad3, draws near I'll have to factor that into my decision. I'm not an impulse buyer or early adopter and I demand some value for my dollar. ASUS has delivered a great tablet on paper but so far that's all we know and NO ONE knows what the ICS experience will be like on this tablet. Waiting...for now.

If you honestly demand value for your dollar then an ipad would never be on your list as apple products are the absolute worse value for the dollar as can be created.

Only if the lawsuit by HASBRO doesn't eff things up.

What is the point of commiting to purchase an item durring the "Pre-Order" period if when the item does become available AKA "Release Date" I am put into the back of the bus and I get a estimated shipping date of 45 days AFTER the release date!!! I just got this Email"

"We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on November 22, 2011 (Order# ###-####-######):

"ASUS Transformer Prime TF201-C1-GR 10.1-Inch 64GB Tablet (Amethyst Gray)"
    Estimated arrival date: January 25, 2012 - February 09, 2012

This is NOT truth in advertising!!!!!! WHAT A SCAM!!!!

I can not fault Amazon but SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on Asus for missleading the consumer!

  • Got mine today...

Just charging it up right now. No dock though - just the tablet itself.

@TheWerewolf: What's it like? I'm thinking of getting one. Is the 40-pin contact annoying, or are there proper adapters? Personally I'd prefer to just have real USB ports instead of that crap, but if it's not too bad I think I can live with it.

Mine is due tomorrow. Best Buy emailed me saying they shipped it a few days ago via UPS and I have been tracking the shipment.

I pre-ordered from B&H Photo. I got my notice that it is on the way! UPS shows it is on the truck for delivery today. However, the keyboard dock is showing on back order.

Went to GameStop on 12/10 and told them I wanted one. They could not take any pre-orders, but they put me at the top of the list (I was the only person who was interested in one at the time...I know, hard to believe). they said they might have it by 12/19, but could not give me any guarantees.

Got a call on 12/20 that it would be delayed until around 1/6.

Got a call last night (12/22) that it was in...and I had it in my hands 15 minutes later. It's a gift for someone else, so I can't tell you anything about it as I haven't opened it. But considering all I've read about how this was handled by other companies, with pre-orders being canceled and all of the associated drama, GamesStop will be seeing more of my business in the future.
