AT&T: Slow upload speeds due to software error

By | July 8, 2010, 1:55am PDT

Summary: AT&T responds after a number of recent complaints regarding extremely slow upload speeds on the 3G network when using HSUPA-capable wireless devices. Read: the iPhone 4.

Another day. Another software error. Another excuse. Today it comes from AT&T after a recent number of complaints regarding extremely slow upload speeds on the 3G network when using HSUPA-capable wireless devices. Read: the iPhone 4.

Upload speeds reportedly dropped to as low as 100 kbps, leading some to wonder whether or not AT&T was further capping usage.

AT&T has finally responded to the problem, placing the blame on yet another software bug that was “triggered under certain conditions.” Cryptic. Thus, Alcatel-Lucent is prepping a software fix, but it hasn’t been determined when that will actually go live.

This doesn’t apply only to the iPhone 4, but following Apple’s statement regarding software problems and reception issues, this is a bit overboard already. When paying $200+ for a mobile device and over $50-70 (if not more) each month for a voice and data plan, it’s not too much to ask either that these issues should have been dealt with prior to release or at least a detailed explanation of the problem. Not just something about “certain conditions.”
