Although it was expected to launch during summer, Barnes & Noble's PubIt! self-publishing platform is finally ready for use.

It's been awhile since the initial announcement in May, so here's a bit of a refresher. PubIt! is intended for aspiring and/or independent writers and publishers looking for an easy and cheaper way to publish their work and get it to the masses. Look how far we've come from the ol' printing press.

PubIt! content then heads to at least BN.com and the B&N eBookstore, among other digital bookstores that might pick the titles up.

B&N promises "no hidden fees regardless of the size," but for a rough idea on pricing, publishers can price their works between $0.99 and $199.99. PubIt! eBooks priced at or between $2.99 and $9.99 will deliver 65% of the list price to the publishers, while anything priced at $2.98 or less, or $10.00 or more will entitle publishers to 40% of the list price.

More information about pricing and publishing rights are available on the PubIt! website.

if people thought iPad was a bad name, what will they think of this? Don't you put an ipad in your pubit area?

In answer to your second question, technically,no; but according to their FAQ's, you can bloody well put your Pubit!s on your iPad.
(Funny, when they launched via email, my first reading of it was with a long "u", even knowing it was B&N.)

  • ZDNet Talkback is lousy

Why is it that ZDNet talkback is so hard to use? If I'm not logged in FIRST, and I click "reply to" and then fill out a comment, and then it asks me to log in. But after logging in it loses my comments.

Talkback should be called "Talk to the hand" as everytime I do this, I just give up because I wasted enough time the first and futile time.

So I suggest you go to your server logs and look at the click trails and notice how many other users experience this and then give up, just because you require logging in.

I have the SAME problem! It's really frustrating! Also, how the hell does an IT news site have such poorly implemented IT?
