Although it was expected to launch during summer, Barnes & Noble's PubIt! self-publishing platform is finally ready for use.

It's been awhile since the initial announcement in May, so here's a bit of a refresher. PubIt! is intended for aspiring and/or independent writers and publishers looking for an easy and cheaper way to publish their work and get it to the masses. Look how far we've come from the ol' printing press.

PubIt! content then heads to at least BN.com and the B&N eBookstore, among other digital bookstores that might pick the titles up.

B&N promises "no hidden fees regardless of the size," but for a rough idea on pricing, publishers can price their works between $0.99 and $199.99. PubIt! eBooks priced at or between $2.99 and $9.99 will deliver 65% of the list price to the publishers, while anything priced at $2.98 or less, or $10.00 or more will entitle publishers to 40% of the list price.

More information about pricing and publishing rights are available on the PubIt! website.
