Barnes & Noble offering up $50 gift card with Nook

While the Amazon Kindle goes on sale at Target stores nationwide this weekend, Barnes & Noble is trying to lure some customers away with a hefty free gift card with new purchases of the Nook.

For a “limited time,” consumers who pick up a new Nook in B&N stores or the online store will also get a free $50 B&N gift card. Ideally, you’d use it for some more eBooks. What good is that e-reader without them anyway?

Note the fine print that if you pick up a Nook online and want to take advantage of this deal, you must have or create a bn.com account and leave a credit card on file. And if you return that Nook, the gift card has to go back too - or you’ll be getting $50 less back.

Both the Kindle and the Nook are priced at $259, so it is quite the incentive. Does this promotion entice you to pick up a Nook now?

And the Best Buy ad in Sunday's paper offered the Nook at the standard $259 with only a $25 gift card.
Sure sounds tempting... Although it's basically just 50 bucks worth of content for the Nook and not really a discount on what is a pretty pricey and never discounted product. I have been eyeing the Nook for a while, maybe this is enough of a reason to pick one up.
