Best Buy's newest connected HDTV offers the TiVo experience without the DVR

By | August 1, 2011, 10:03am PDT

Summary: Best Buy’s latest Insignia televisions may look like your Tivo, but they sure won’t act like your TiVo.

Best Buy’s latest  Insignia television is a bit of a strange thing. Offering what it calls “the TiVo experience”, the Insignia Connected TV doesn’t actually include a DVR. What this means is this: While the television’s interface may remind you of TiVo’s own, the television doesn’t actually include any TiVo funcaitonaliry.

So, yeah, its a bit odd. Still, the television does allow users to connect to services like Netfix, YouTube, Napster, Pandora, and Cinema Now. So maybe its not all bad.

The Connected TV comes in two forms, one 32-inches, the other 24-inches, for $499 and $699, respectively. Best Buy says a major part of the television’s appeal will lie in its ease of use, which might explain why tapped TiVo’s familiar, but oft-maligned, interface.

I'm of the opinion that all the latestbroadband services should be free to people that have been subscribed to a service previously, I'm talking here about upgrades here of course.
Have a very nice day!

those prices are backwards, right?
Really? 24 and 32 inches? I'd rather have a 19" tube tv than a 24" hdtv... SO SMALL!
Must be 32" and 42" display sizes?
@dancoiv
If you click on the [Best Buy] link under the story it links to the BestBuy website showing they're 32 and 42 inches like you thought. Although the prices there are much higher than quoted in the article, $599.99 and $999.99 rather than $499 and $699. I'm not sure where the author got the prices listed in the article, but BB seems to think differently.
@BrewmanNH When I clicked on the link it showed the 499 & 699 prices. Look to the right side.
@BrewmanNH SHOWS AS OF TODAY THE PRICE THEY STATED

"funcaitonaliry"?

Best Buys's not Best Buy's
Not sure what TiVo will think of the "labeling". Good luck on that one BB.
TiVo without the DVR...isn't that...nothing!
What's the point? Most cable providers give a much better interface than this. So if it doesn't do any recording, why bother?
