In move that may rival in convenience the invention of the clock radio, UK kitchen appliance maker Breville has made a significant combination of its own: the toaster and radio.
With the Breville Radio Toaster, breakfasters can toast bread (or bagels, or English muffins) and listen to music all on the same device.
Technical ingenuity aside, the device is clearly a toaster. Up to two slices of bread can be toasted at once, and with varying degrees of intensity. Like most modern toasters, the Radio Toaster also features reheat and defrost buttons as well as a removable crumb tray, making the device a fairly standard kitchen appliance that just happens to have a radio attached to it.
Thankfully, its music options help to liven things up, offering both AM and FM frequencies, 10 station pre-sets, and auxiliary inputs for external MP3 players. Note, also, the device’s protruding antenna, which is pretty fun.
Breville’s musical toaster sells for $80 (£50), making it something of an ideal Mother’s Day gift. Because we all know how much mothers love toast.
