Domestic airlines have been working on outfitting planes with Wi-Fi coverage, and now more international carriers are getting onboard as well. Cathay Pacific is the latest airline to do so, but with the help of Panasonic, they’re bumping things up a few notches.
With Panasonic Avionics, passengers on this airline will be able to take advantage of 50Mbps Internet, GSM voice and data service, and in-flight TV. Only the TV entertainment portal appears to be free of charge, but even that will have some pay-per-view programming.
When it’s all completed, Cathay Pacific expects to be the first airline in the world that has expanded these services to its whole fleet. Unfortunately, this project won’t be getting off the ground until at least early 2012.
