HP announced on Wednesday the Mini 5102 netbook for business and education use and the 2101 and 210 netbooks for consumers, all based on Intel’s new Atom N450 Pine Trail platform.
The company also announced the $229 Compaq Mini 102.
The squarish Mini 5102 (pictured above) is a 10-inch model with a WSVGA or WXGA screen, Broadcom HD video acceleration, and choice of FreeDOS, SUSE Linux, Windows XP or Windows 7 (Starter or Home Premium). It’s 0.9-inches thick, offers optional capacitive touchscreen capability and choice of 4-cell or 6-cell battery for up to 10 hours of life.
The successor to the Mini 5101 has an optional integrated handle for portability and a brushed anodized aluminum exterior in black, red or blue. The keyboard is 95 percent of full-size, and Corel Home Office comes preloaded.
Meanwhile, the Mini 2101 and 210 share the same new design and chiclet-style, 92 percent-size keyboard. The Mini 210 starts at $329 and offers a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1GB of RAM and Windows 7 Starter along with several color options: black, silver, blue and red.
The $399 Mini 2101 is internally the same, but comes in only black. Both will be available with Broadcom Crystal HD accelerators, support for up to 1GB memory, storage up to 320 GB, built-in VGA port and five-in-one digital media slot.
Both offer 9 hours of battery life.
Finally, the $229 Compaq 102 offers Intel’s older N270 processor along with 1GB of RAM and Windows 7 Starter.
