Summary: CES 2010: Lenovo on Sunday announced its 11.6-inch ThinkPad X100e, the company’s first professional-grade ultraportable laptop that’s less than 3 lbs. and starts at $449.

Lenovo on Sunday announced its 11.6-inch ThinkPad X100e, the company’s first professional-grade ultraportable laptop that’s less than 3 lbs. and starts at $449.

Intended for workers on the go, the X100e offers a low-cost, small system that’s tuned for mobile business, not consumer, use. That translates to AMD chips (Athlon Neo single, dual-core; Turion dual-core processors), Windows 7 Professional, the company’s ThinkVantage Technologies, global availability and technical support.

The X100e offers an 11.6-inch HD display paired to an ISO full-size keyboard with multitouch touchpad and Trackpoint. Like the company’s newly-announced ThinkPad Edge for SMBs, the X100e has the company’s new “contemporary” keyboard design (bigger, rounded, chiclet-style keys; no number pad or rarely-used keys) as well as red and black color options.

Tuned for business mobility, the X100e is less than three pounds and offers 802.11n Wi-Fi and optional Bluetooth and 3G mobile broadband.

It also offers Lenovo’s full portfolio of service and support offerings (ThinkPad Protection covers repairs resulting from accidents, drops and spills; ThinkPlus Priority Support provides 24/7 tech support for IT pros; Hard Disk Drive Retention lets customers keep their hard drive in case of damage or failure).

The ThinkPad X100e is available now through Lenovo Business Partners and Lenovo’s website. It starts at $449.
