  • These devices will have a tough road ahead...
not from the Kindle or nook, but from smartphones that offer their own e-reader solutions. The only advantages most of these devices have is a bigger screen and power-saving e-ink displays(excepting the two devices featured with Android making them closer to a tablet-like netbook, justifying their price).

My needs are already met with Aldiko and FBReader on my Android phone, but if I absolutely had to get an e-book device I'd probably go for the Aluratek Libre.

  • Not really....
For people who want to sit down for 2 hours to read, backlit smartphone with tiny display will not cut it. eInk readers will continue to sell millions.

Got any more info on the Aluratek?
I'm curious how readable the mono LCD display is.

Most of these e-readers are too expensive. Until you see them for under $200 or less you are better off buying a netbook. For $350 plus most of them are selling for you can buy lots of used books on Amazon and its no big deal if you lose one book.

I have owned my Nook for almost 2 months. The primary thing that sets it apart from other e-readers, access to free in-store content, has been very problematic. BN apparently has not upgraded their networks to handle the increased load due to Nooks and the offer of free wi-fi. And the in-store content is only available via wi-fi. So i can't recommend buying one if that is important to you. And BN is constantly advertising the in-store digital freebies, as well as free wi-fi, so it's probably going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
