LAS VEGAS — LG announced on Wednesday its new Google Android-based smartphone, Optimus Black, which the company calls the world’s slimmest mobile device at only 9.22mm.
The company made the announcement at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show.
The device offers a 700-nit, 4-inch NOVA display that the company says is intended to offer “the brightest, clearest and most readable among mobile screens.” That brightness should help the device remain visible outdoors.
LG also says the Optimus Black’s display uses half the power of a conventional LCD indoors, and AMOLED displays — as seen on the Google Nexus One — consume twice as much power as NOVA.
It comes with a 1500 mAh battery and weighs 109 grams. It tapers to as thin as 6.0 mm.
More highlights:
- Uses LG’s Optimus UI 2.0, Gesture UI
- First phone to use Wi-Fi Direct
- World’s first 2MP front-facing camera.
- Google Android 2.2 Froyo platform (Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade capable)
The LG Optimus Black will be available globally in the first half of 2011.
