Cable giant Comcast is developing a new social service that will let users share television or Internet programs with friends in real-time.

Called Tunerfish, the service will show which programs are “trending” among friends as well as offer rewards for activity.

Tunerfish founder and Plaxo marketing vice president John McCrea joined Comcast Social Technologies engineering vice president Ryan King onstage this morning at the TechCrunch: Disrupt conference in New York City to briefly reveal the service, which was initially developed as a secret, skunk-works project.

“There must be a way to discover great TV,” McCrea said. “Tunerfish is a social discovery engine for TV.”

McCrea said users can use existing Facebook or Twitter accounts to log in. Tunerfish would import existing friends from those services, he said.

He also said Tunerfish would provide Hulu support, but did not go into further detail.

The service, which will be available natively for the iPhone, iPad and televisions, will debut in public beta in the next two weeks.
