Dell Adamo XPS heat-sensing latch in action; is it worth it?

Dell's 9.99mm thin Adamo XPS ultrathin laptop has a heat-sensing latch that opens the computer by gliding your finger over a strip on the edge of its lid.

Earlier this month, I wrote that Dell's 9.99mm thin Adamo XPS ultrathin premium laptop would have a heat-sensing latch that would open the computer by gliding your finger over a strip on the edge of its lid.

That BusinessWeek story wasn't exactly correct. It won't automatically open. But it will unlock.

A strange security measure indeed -- you can only open it with the rub of your warm finger. I can't imagine this system will sell very well in the winter in Chicago, know what I mean?

The Adamo XPS will be officially announced in November and will harbor an Intel ULV chip in its rounded, narrow innards.

If you want to see it in action, see Joanna Stern's scoop at Gizmodo. (Hey Dell, how about a little love for ZDNet readers?)
