DirecTV bringing NFL Sunday Ticket to Apple TV, Boxee and Roku?

Summary: DirecTV might have let some internal developments slip in a recent survey about watching NFL Sunday Ticket.

DirecTV might have let some internal developments slip in a recent survey about watching NFL Sunday Ticket.

Thanks to an anonymous tipster to Engadget, the survey points towards a shift in broadcasting NFL Sunday Ticket coverage via Internet-connected devices. Specifically, that includes Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, and the triumvirate of set-top boxes: Apple TV, Boxee and Roku.

This all seems reasonable considering how much of a push there is lately to push multimedia content streaming over the Internet to consoles and set-top boxes. (Just look at Netflix, Hulu and the NHL Game Center Live HD channel on Roku.)

There’s no timeline as to when DirecTV subscribers would actually get to take advantage of these additional streaming sources, and in all likelihood won’t be until next season. But if you’re a DirecTV user, is this something you’d like to see?

I'd like to see DirecTV go streaming - entirely - so that those who cannot acquire the satellite still able to access their programming and aren't reliant on the cable for video programming.
@JT82
Yeah...that would be a good thing...and could be the direction they are going. After all, nothing in the name "DirecTV" suggests it is satelite only and could be used as a branding for direct streaming....satellite or no satellite.

That would be a good kick in the pants of cable TV.

@VRSpock DTV likes to be 1st on many things. They were 1st to have pure digital TV, 1st having sport packages, 1st having a DVR that can be set from the web and 1st implementing a multi-room DVR via coax.

I would not be surprised if they developed a streaming only package. But that feature may be problematic due to contracts with network stations.

BTW, I hate that DTV no longer carries G4 (I enjoyed AOTS) ... I guess that Comcast (owner of G4TV) decided to take it out from the competition to see if they can force customers to use their crappy cable service.
I don't think the question is framed well. If you have DirecTV you don't also need the streaming. They already have an app for that.

DirecTV should offer NFL Ticket as a standalone streaming package so they can still make a buck on Apple TV users and others using streaming devices exclusively who have already dropped these dino services like Sat and cable and just want to pay for specific content packages like MLB.tv, instead of all the "Must-carry" BS, soft porn on Skin-e-Max, and reruns of "I dream of jeannie" and the "Rockford Files"

Major League Baseball also has its head up its ass by not selling market-based access instead of blacking out real games that don't include the Mariners, Pirates or Baltimore.
