The DSLR Controller app has a pretty straightforward concept: It allows users fully control their Canon EOS cameras via their smartphones. The apps functionality includes a 15 frames-per-second live view, and control over a variety of the camera’s settings, including aperture and white balance.
But it gets better: To use the app, all users need is a USB host cable, a Canon EOS camera, and a Android smartphone with USB host support. No computer required.
That, of course, doesn’t mean the app isn’t without its issues. As developer Chainwire stresses on the app’s Android Market page, DSLR Controller is still in beta, meaning its likely to be prone to all sorts of issues. That probably makes the app’s $8.48 price tag a bit more lofty than it already is. Fortunately, Chainwire says that when the app gets its official upgrade to version 1.0, beta testers users will get the upgrade for free. Potential buyers can take solace in that.
