Fusion Garage's Grid 10 tablet $200 cheaper as company announces release delay

By | September 12, 2011, 3:04pm PDT

Summary: Weeks before the release of Fusion Garage’s upcoming Grid 10, the tablet is already seeing both a price cut and delay.

Fusion Garage seems to have gotten the hint that cheap sells. Which is why the company is dropping the price of the Wi-Fi version its upcoming Grid 10 tablet $200 from $499 to $299. The Wi-Fi + 3G version is getting a similar drop from $599 to $399.

Fusion Garage CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan dropped the news in a blog post on the company’s website, noting that previously ongoing negotiations with manufacturers prevented Fusion Garage from announcing the device at $299. “The important thing, however, is that we have created a new price-performance segment of the tablet market,” Rathakrishnan noted. And that’s a big deal - at least until Amazon releases its own tablet and plays a similar game pricing its tablet at sub-iPad levels.

With the announcement of the price cut, however, comes news that the Grid 10 will be delayed from September 15th to October 1st. Fusion Garage cites changes to the Adobe Flash Player approval process as reason for the delay and was quick to say that the delay wasn’t indicative of any larger issues.

I strongly recommend that you read the history of this device. It has supposedly been on the way for the best part of a couple of years now.
"The important thing, however, is that we have created a new price-performance segment of the tablet market". Poppycock! Until the device it released, he has created nothing but hype and sensationalism. This device looks interesting, but I am left to wonder if it will ever make it to market.
@ptorning It's coming out in two weeks. You're acting like this is Duke Nukem Forever or something.

But the supposed specs on the Amazon tablet may relegate it to its own niche - likely to be a successful niche, but still....
I mean, it looks to be a competitor to the Nookcolor. More features maybe. But not a full tablet to compete in the market against other full tablet offerings.
I have a Nookcolor, in stock form it is limited. With a new rom, it is a pretty capable little tablet - just missing some features of the big boys. I suspect that Amazon's will be a similar tale.
