Galaxy Nexus U.S. release pushed back to December, confirms Samsung

Summary: One of the bigger concerns surrounding Samsung's Galaxy Nexus is the all-important matter of its U.S.

One of the bigger concerns surrounding Samsung's Galaxy Nexus is the all-important matter of its U.S. release date. Announced in October, the device was set to be released at an undefined date in late November. But with a week left in the month, Verizon has still been pretty mum on when the device will see the light of day.

Fortunately, things are becoming a bit more clear. Samsung has confirmed, via Business Insider, that the Galaxy Nexus will drop in December. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there's still no word on an exact release, nor is Samsung or Verizon giving the device's precise U.S. price.

Already available in the U.K., the Galaxy Nexus is set to be available in Canada on December 7th. That makes its lack of a U.S. release date that much more significant and also makes it pretty clear that the delay is on Verizon's end, not Samsung's.

I think the most frustrating thing is that Verizon has said nothing to this point. If you want/have to release it in December, ok whatever, I'm disappointed but stuff happens. But with them saying nothing, it leaves it to speculation which gets everyone all worked up when it misses one of these leaked dates. It was announced well over a month ago so people really want this phone and are clinging to every bit of info they can get and Verizon is holding everything close to it's chest with a bad poker face.

The only reason Verizon is holding out releasing the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is because they're hoping to boost Motorola RAZR and Bionic holiday sales. Once the Galaxy Nexus is released, those phones will be an afterthought.... and after all the advertising dough VZW has spent pumping the RAZR, it would be ill-advised to let that fall off so soon.

@amc007 I often read responses to ZD articles, mainly because of the sheer stupidity involved. But your response makes complete business sense.

In fact, having to choose a Verizon phone, which I must do before Dec 31st, and I have this exact dilemma, the Razr is nice but the screen is junk, the Nexus is nice but we really don't know for sure and there is no sd slot.

What I really want is a 4g 1.5Ghz dual core, slider, with 8mb camera, sd slot and an awesome 720hd screen. Why can't anyone build the perfect phone!

Yet another disappointment in the Smartphone arena; a few months back, I was holding out for the iPhone 5, which didn't happened, a mere tease and massive let down. Now, the Galaxy Nexus will single-handedly capture and rule the Smartphone arena! And I can't hardly wait to get my sweaty palms on one!

  • US Is Not The Priority Any More

Notice how Europe and Asia are becoming the markets that get new smartphone introductions first? Because they are where the growth is.

I am approaching out of contract with VZW and have been limping along with a vintage Razr since my HTC (POS) Eris crapped out on me last year just out of warranty. VZW and HTC both suck at what they do and it would take a lot to get me to continue doing business with VZW - I'll never buy another HTC product. The Galaxy Nexus would almost get me to stick with VZW but I'm been smartphoneless long enough.
Finding hotspots and using my iPod Touch has been economical but a real pain and I curse HTC & VZW every time I'm forced to do it.
I'm pulling the trigger shortly most likely NOT with VZW.
