Game developers recreate Osama bin Laden's assassination in downloadable shooter

By | May 9, 2011, 10:48am PDT

Summary: Not long after the announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death, gamers already have the ability to experience the event via their keyboards and mice.

It’s barely been a week since the Obama administration announced that it had killed Osama bin Laden in a not-so-secret Pakistan compound. But in The Death of Osama bin Laden, gamers already have their chance to kill the terrorist leader all over again.

The title, developed by Kuma Games as a part of its Kuma\War series, recreates the operation that ended bin Laden’s life. While the developers say the game’s environment is a faithful replication of bin Laden’s compound, the game’s scenario offers a number of significant variations from the official White House narrative of the event. The player’s character goes in alone, for example, eventually killing an armed and solitary bin Laden. There is also no sign of the bin Laden family members also reported to be present during the operation.

The Death of Osama bin Laden also offers gamers the ability to play as as one of the terrorist leader’s defenders, a role that the game randomly assign to players. Solely a multiplayer experience The Death of Osama bin Laden may not be entirely accurate, but it does give gamers a taste of one of the most significant military operations in recent memory.

Kotaku has a video of the game, which is available for free on the Kuma Games website. Here’s the official description description:

“After months of surveillance and growing amounts of Intel, 79 Navy SEALs aboard two US Black Hawks and two more Chinooks cross into Pakistan under the cloak of darkness. The commandos quickly breech a secret compound, one designed for defense and manned by al Qaeda killers. In forty minutes and a rain of hot lead, a decades-long, worldwide manhunt for Osama Bin Laden will be ended… by you.”
