Get your own hands-on with a HP TouchPad now in Walmart and Best Buy
HP's much anticipated TouchPad running webOS 3.0 goes on sale this Friday but demo units are already hitting stores across the country now so you can see what all the hype is about for yourself.
According to PreCentral, Wal-Mart and Best Buy from New York to Kansas are stocking the Wi-Fi slate from HP, with photos and videos to prove.
On the software front, in addition to a well designed OS, HP has also taken a page out of RIM's Playbook by developing its own Facebook app as reported by TechCrunch.
The TouchPad, in case you've forgotten, is a 9.7" slate sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2 GHz dual-core APQ 8060 processor, Adreno 220 GPU,with a capacitive, multi-touch display at 1024×768 resolution. It has a built-in 1.3 mega-pixel front-facing camera, and offers both Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity (though only the Wi-Fi version is launching on Friday).
It comes in both a 16 GB and 32 GB versions, with the smaller capacity model retailing for $498 and $598 for the 32 GB as listed on Walmart.com but they are not available for purchase online. HP is clearly not competing with Apple on price but believes its multitasking OS will win over some iPad or even Android slate customers. Does the TouchPad have a chance?
