Productivity on a smartphone should become even easier now that Google has announced the compatibility of Google Docs Viewer with Android-based mobile devices as well as the iPhone and iPad.

The newfound support will allow users with these devices to view PDFs, .ppt, .doc and .docx files without downloading the file.

All you need to get started is head to docs.google.com within your mobile browser. No app required. From there, users can operate the viewer by flipping between pages and the pan/zoom tool. iPhone/iPad users can pinch as usual to zoom in or out. This should be extra useful on the latter two devices, especially the iPhone 4’s crisp “retina display.”
