Acme Made recently released the Clutch laptop case and bag for business-minded consumers on-the-go. Here’s the hands-on review.

USE

Fitted for the 13-inch variants of the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro, the Clutch sports a coated canvas exterior with leather trim. It might feel waterproof, but I wouldn’t want to be to casual with a cup of coffee around this bag. A few raindrops and maybe some thick foggy mist might just wipe off the sides, but there is definitely room for water to seep in through the sides at the top just under the flap.

The interior is made from quilted twill nylon to protect the MacBook Air or Pro from scratches and bumps. But there is nothing at all to protect it from any liquids as it just slides in without a zippered top or anything like that.

I don’t like how the removable shoulder strap hangs from metal buckles positioned on the rear of the Clutch case. I’d much rather that the clips were on the sides to offer a better balance when carrying this sack. I felt like bag was always hanging a little extra forward given the weight of the laptop. However, I can be a bit picky, so for most consumers, I can imagine this won’t really be much of a problem.

One of the perks with the Clutch compared to other laptop cases or even some laptop bags is the amount of storage space available for everyday items. There’s a spot for a mobile phone (as pictured below), room for pens, and a CD-sized zippered pocket. There is also another full-sized pocket in the middle (thus, between the laptop and front accessory spaces) that would fit folders and paper without getting crushed or folded. One could also opt to put power cords there too.

AVAILABILITY

If you like what you see here, hopefully you live near an Apple Store as the Clutch is only available at Apple retail locations. This professional look also comes with a higher-end price tag: $99.99. This is a sophisticated and stylish accessory, but $100 is a tad high for a laptop bag. However, if you’re looking for something smaller than a briefcase or a bulkier messenger bag but will still hold a 13-inch computer, then keep the Clutch in mind.

Check back tomorrow for reviews of two additional Acme Made cases for the MacBook and MacBook Pro.
