HP Mini 5103 netbook makes quiet debut with touchscreen

Summary: Without much of a peep, Hewlett-Packard has released a new netbook, the Mini 5103, which boasts a few intriguing features including optional DDR3 memory and a touchscreen.

Without much of a peep, Hewlett-Packard has released a new netbook, the Mini 5103, which boasts a few intriguing features including optional DDR3 memory and a touchscreen.

Posted first to the Italian HP site, the basic 10.1-inch Mini 5103 will include an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz processor, Intel GMA 3150 graphics, a 160GB hard drive and 1GB of DDR2 memory.

But there is room for improvement on this portable HP computer. Users can opt for an Intel Atom N475 1.86GHz CPU, up to 2GB of DDR3 memory, a 320GB hard drive (or even up to 128GB of SSD space), and a touchscreen with a 1,366 x 768 resolution. Users can also boost the battery life to 9.5 hours with a six-cell battery (a must for a netbook) and 3G support.

The Mini 5103 starts at €429 ($567), but it hasn’t been made available on the HP USA site yet.

No big deal. Touchscreen kits have been available for most netbooks for almost a year now.
