Hewlett-Packard has another convertible tablet almost ready for us, and the TouchSmart tm2 definitely brings a touch of flair and style.

HP has implemented its updated TouchSmart Mobile 2.0 software with the intention of making the touchscreen more like a digital "canvas." The battery life is rather average, if not a bit below average at this point, with a possible maximum of six hours and 30 minutes.

Let's take a look inside the embellished aluminum chassis of the TouchSmart tm2:

• 12.1-inch diagonal LED BrightView touchscreen display (1,280 x 800 resolution)
• Intel Core i3-380UM 1.33GHz processor
• AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5450 switchable graphics
• 500GB 7200RPM SATA hard drive
• Up to 8GB of DDR3 memory
• 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
• 5-in-1 integrated card reader
• Dolby Advanced Audio with Altec Lansing speakers
• Built-in webcam and integrated microphone
• Full-size keyboard
• Comes with a stylus
• Integrated fingerprint reader
• Connectivity: Three USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, Headphone/Microphone combo jack

The TouchSmart tm2 will retail for $829.99 when it goes on sale on October 27.

I'd prefer the keyboardless version--a slate version of an HP TouchSmart, but with a 3G module (HSDPA/HSPA+) built-in to it. :)

Err, stylish? Really? Not a patch on earlier offerings (Compaq TC-1000) from a style point of view.

• No one wants convertible tablets

The market has proven that. Either make a capable netbook, or a touch-only tablet.

This device has been out for months now, this is just a refresh, I have and older version and it's a FANTASTIC device. HP has sold a TON of these things and has been making convertibles for 8 years. There's plenty of market for devices like this. Pens do a lot things that keyboards, mice and touch can't.

Styli are on of the most popluar accessories for the iPad.

I have had HP's tablet for 18 months. It has been a game changer for me. The notepad and stylus let me do all my handwritten notes just like with a pad of paper and a pencil. I can carry all of my notes with me digitally on all my files. I can transfer my notes to my colleagues electronically. It also has the capability of being configuring with a 3G module. All in all it has become an indispensible tool. Anyone who thinks an Ipad can replace it just hasn?t used one.

@matcare

Couldn't have said it better myself! Tablet PCs with digital pens and OneNote are simply the best note taking tools ever. Niche or not, these tools currently have no analog and those who use them and understand them realize ENORMOUS productivity gains.

Not for everyone but thers' simply nothing else that does these things.

Sounds better than the newly announced Dell "convertible"
Now if only they would dump the meagre i3 and put in a Phenom processor it would be perfect as an entertainment tablet/netbook

I got the older Touchsmart Tx2 as my work machine, it has revolutionized my work processes for taking notes, file management & mobile computing. I think HP should market this updated laptop more strongly as it beats anything I have seen or used.
