HP rolled out several new mobile devices in San Francisco today, including the tiny HP Veer that is getting some big attention as it is the smallest webOS smartphone yet.

The HP Veer measures 3.25-inches tall when in compact mode, which is about the same sizes as a standard credit card. Even when the device slides out to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, it still looks slightly reminscent of the failed Microsoft Kin One.

Nevertheless, HP managed to pack a lot of punch into this petite handheld, including:

  • 2.6-inch multi-touch display (320 x 400 resolution)
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 7230 800MHz processor
  • 5-megapixel camera
  • HSPA+ support
  • Quad-band GSM/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900
  • 8GB of storage space
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
  • Accelerometer
  • GPS
  • Proximity and ambient light sensors
  • Mobile hotspot support
  • Battery life: Up to five hours of talk time or 300 hours on standby

The Veer will start shipping this spring, but neither pricing nor mobile carriers have been revealed yet.

WOW WOW WOW I hope that Sprint gets to carry it & that its retail price is good. I'm anxious to see it & try it out so I can buy one! Mega Kudos to HP! :)

A 2.6" screen on a Smartphone is a waste of space.

Little difference to the screen on my Blackberry, and it is a hateful Web Experience.

See iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S for a case study in size/comfort/usability.

Makes my eyes hurt just thinking of the tiny screen. Certainly too small for anyone with adult-sized fingers.

  • HP Veer

Does it come with a magnifying glass or is that optional? Can a microscope be used to read the text? Just kidding. It looks like it'll be a good seller if it's got the fit & finish that HP's known for.

Functionality aside it is sadly one ugly piece of hardware
