HTC affirms most of their 2010 smartphones will include Android 2.2

HTC has confirmed a major commitment to their current clientele and potential future customers with the declaration that “most phones” released under their brand name in 2010 will be powered by Google Android OS 2.2.

According to Pocket-lint, HTC will be implementing the highly anticipated Android 2.2 (a.k.a. Froyo) update later this year, and possibly as soon as the end of the summer. Unfortunately, there isn’t a specific roadmap available yet, but it will definitely be made available for the Desire in the UK and Droid Incredible smartphones.

HTC has been having a pretty good year so far. The Google-helmed Nexus One might not have received the spectacular reaction they hoped for (nor the send-off), but the Droid Incredible has surpassed all expectations. Not to mention a number of HTC smartphones made it to ZDNet’s Matthew Miller’s list of the top 10 smartphones of 2010 so far.

HTC promises OS update for the HERO and so this news is as good as marketing hype to prop up their sales and nothing more. Until HERO gets the update, any announcements that HTC churns out should be taken with a pinch of salt.

In short, get the phone with the best possible OS IN THE PHONE and don't hold your breath in anticipation of any updates.
good to hear, I have a couple of iPhonatics friends and co-workers to rub that in with, they are all about trashing the Android OS update process.
@aiellenon :

And they are right to trash the update process. HTC Hero still did not get the OS update that HTC promises.

I hope that Google update all the phones with able processing power to run 2.2, pulling up all the OS versions to one standard... us HTC Hero users are feeling left out!
@toodle : I think 'left out' is not the word to use. Being 'conned' is the right word.
Given that they have no plans to upgrade the current line, sounds like the Evo and the Incredible are already obsolete models. What a waste.
