Rumors recently swirled about the HTC Flyer launching with T-Mobile USA, but now we have some official news at least on one major spec.

That would be the operating system. The HTC Flyer is promised to debut with the Android 2.4 version of Gingerbread that will be issued this month. HTC reps have taken to Twitter to announce a very important upgrade in store for the Flyer: “We will be offering a Honeycomb upgrade when it’s made available.”

Time to rejoice? Maybe or maybe not. First, we don’t know the launch details for the HTC Flyer, so it could be awhile before we know what we’re dealing with. Second, we hope that the HTC Sense user interface will play nicely with Honeycomb. (Hopefully that news isn’t the “something big” we’re supposed to see from HTC on April 12.)

The 7-inch tablet made its global debut at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February. A very similar slate, the HTC Evo View 4G, was later unveiled at CTIA Wireless in March. The Evo View 4G is slated to ship with Gingerbread when it is released this summer. However, there hasn’t been any official word that the Evo View 4G will get a Honeycomb upgrade as well.

@wackoae Well, check again. 2.4 is being released as Gingerbread as well. This is an upgrade to make it more compatible with Honeycomb. Google decided to call it GB as well. Try to keep up. Ok? happy

Gingerbread's name is also continued to the 2.4 version.To me there is some confusion over the publics understanding of the OS versions for the smart phone and the tablet.

@Robert Hahn I am way more interested in buying a Flyer than an iPad.

So what! Honeycomb won't matter if you can't get apps like "Dropbox" or "Nook" from the Android Market. These Apps load on phones but when loading to a tablet you will get the message "This account not associated with a phone..." Google is aware of the problem but has done nothing to fix it as of March 11. We all know what day that was. Can anyone say "Ipad 2"?

@cyberlyt

Sugar sync is been developed on linux wonder if Android will follow? Someone report unix sucess too! Is this an overgrown smart phone or something more like the IPad size? Not sure if I would buy anything between the large smart phone and the laptop.
