The HTC Hero has officially launched on Sprint today, the first Google Android-powered smartphone on the carrier and the first on a carrier other than T-Mobile.

Reviewers have been keen on the device, and some have said it’s the best Android phone to date. (You can read ZDNet mobile guru Matthew Miller’s take in a full review here.)

The device is priced at $179 ($479 off-contract), a bit more pricey than its stablemate the Palm Pre.

Which begs the question: Palm Pre or HTC Hero?

RE: HTC Hero now on sale on Sprint: Palm Pre or HTC Hero?

I had the Palm Pre and the phone turned out to be a big mistake. It froze for 2 days straight. I have to say that out of Palms other phones this is the only one that i feel was made cheaply. I have the HTC hero now and am really impressed with the phone as a whole. I hope Pal learns to make phones that are sturdier in the future.

go with the hero currently the Pre has issues I am using one
and have come up against a memory barrier I can't install
anymore apps because it is out of memory with 7.1 gigs
remaining I have to delete some to install others. And from
what I can see only forums a talking about it I hear nothing
from sprint or Palm. It is quite a issue in the forums thou.
I believe that, for now, the Pre is the better phone: smoother transitions between screens, faster internet, cleaner operating system. Doesn't have visual voice mail or voice dialing/command. The Hero looks like it will be a great phone, once they get the initial bugs ironed out, but I question whether its processor is powerful and fast enough for a multitasking phone. I will be making my choice in the coming weeks. I want to see the Samsung Moment first. It has a faster processor and the AMOLED display which, in the videos, looks beautiful.
