Obviously your wallet is a little thicker than most of ours, otherwise another $120/yr would mean a little more to you.
Netflix has enjoyed immense growth in online video delivery, but even they have not tried to rely solely on a subscription-only basis. Unless there is something I'm missing in their potential offering (like an enormous catalog not currently available through other means) then they don't have the value proposition it would take to float a large subscription business, especially if they are paying royalties or revenue-sharing to the content owners.
Not everyone is entirely enthusiastic about the idea of paying for Hulu, but a subscription for streaming via a gaming console makes a little more sense. That might be possible with Sony’s PlayStation 3 very shortly.
According to Bloomberg, talks between Hulu and Sony to bring access to the popular streaming service to the PlayStation Network are almost complete. The monthly subscription fee should fall around $9.95 as previously reported.
Hulu is also likely to become available on Xbox 360 soon (and where is that iPad app!?). Hulu appears to be spreading to consoles and other gadgets the way Netflix has. It’s an excellent additional viewing platform, and more people would probably be willing to shell out a subscription fee each month for that rather than just streaming from the website.
