Apple continues its global roll out of the iPhone 4 today with the launch of the smartphone in 17 more countries. Any bets as to how many more units will sell this weekend?

Up until now, the iPhone 4 has only been available in the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany and Japan. Now, the lucky residents of the following 17 nations will have a chance to discover the smartphone’s infamous antenna problems for themselves:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • Hong Kong
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • The Netherlands
  • Norway
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland

That’s a pretty massive international release for a single day. Apple sold at least 1.7 million units during the opening launch weekend in June. While this weekend probably won’t beat that number, it’s sure to be a hit.

If you live in one of these faraway lands, you can purchase the iPhone 4 (in black, of course) online or in stores.

  • No dropped calls in Malta.
Just for the record. I am holding a mate's iphone4 in my hand, gripping it hard, especially over the antenna. I turn it this way, and that, and cup it with both hands. And you know what, the signal stays strong at 5 bars. (GSM1800, on the Vodafone network).

(He is looking at me in a puzzle, thinking I have gone nuts.. he bought it on the screen looks alone!)

And to put matters in perspective, my 1st gen iphone is still going strong (jailbroken of course) ... and no dropped calls EVER, thank you very much.

And I am not an ardent Apple fan... closed systems bug me! I just think that euro for euro, the iphone is the best I could buy. I also have a chinese-built Android 7inch slate (EKEN M001) that I think is great for hacking and modding... so I am quite open minded.

I think that the area receiving the signal is vitally important for performance.

What a biased anti-Apple bit of fluff. "Drops" instead of debuts or goes on sale? Not to mention the on going FUD about the antenna issue. Apparently the gazillions of eager buyers around the world don't share your, or ZDNets biases.

  • IN MEXICO THERE IS NO PROBLEM...
Seems to me that the problem really is AT&T, i can tell you that my iphone has never (for 2 years now) drop a call and i mean never. It doesn't matter how you grab it so my guess is that the problem still AT&T i don't know how much time its gonna take sinsce the iphone works wit another company.
